Are we humans under threat of extinction? Many believe so. They've a list of hazards that could wipe us out like dinosaurs. So they propose to save the human race by spreading humanity through the Milky Way, colonising suitable planets to dwell on, or using materials from planets to build great artificial worlds.
Now we shall see that the plan to colonise other planets is in denial of the Bible. The denial is three-fold —a denial of Spirit, Heaven, and Creation.
Paul writes, "I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago... whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows, 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter" (2Corinthians 12:2-4 NKJV). If this man was "out of the body" then it was his spirit and his spiritual mind that was caught up and heard secret words.
According to the Bible, human beings have a dual nature, composed of two different substances, that of the spirit, and that of the fleshly body. Many scientists (but not all) are like the Saducees in the time of Christ. "For the Sadducees say there is neither a resurrection, nor angels, nor spirits, but the Pharisees believe all these things" (Acts 23:8).
Thinking about death, Solomon wrote of the dust that returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returning to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7). James says that "the body without the spirit is dead" (James 2:26). At death, the brain ceases to function and decomposes. The mind, however, is with the spirit and remains alive in God’s keeping.
Those who are reconciled to God through Jesus will be given glorious heavenly bodies to house mind and spirit (2Corinthians 5:1). So there is no need to colonise other planets. Jesus has gone "to prepare a place for you" and he is coming back to take you there. So believe and follow him (John 14:1-3).
"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:15-16).
Some who believe the theory of evolution are saying that humanity is now taking control of its own evolution. From now on, human evolvement will be guided rather than happen by chance and will speed up by millions of times to turn men into gods through technology and artificial intelligence.
The Bible, however, exhorts us to "turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all the things that are in them" (Acts 14:15).
The first chapter in the Bible tells how God created heaven and earth and sea. Then it adds, "He made the stars also" (Genesis 1:16). The stars and the worlds around them are God’s creation. They did not make themselves. Now God never invited man to colonise any of them except the earth.
"And God has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings" (Acts 17:26). "God did not create the earth to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited" (Isaiah 45:18).
That Earth, and the starry heavens, will not remain forever. Their fiery destruction is coming. However all who believe and obey Jesus Christ will be transported to a new earth, in a new heavens, where righteousness dwells eternally (2Peter 3:10-13).
The Creator of Heaven and Earth has a perfect plan for his creation. If we deny this truth about the creation, and pursue our own plan to save humanity from extinction, we can expect to face the Creator’s disapproval and be refused entry to the new Earth.
