❖  LAWYERS —The lawyers mentioned in the gospels were not lawyers dealing with civil legal proceedings, but experts in religious law supposedly based on the law of Moses but in fact consisting mostly of the traditions and inventions of men (Mrk 7:9-13)

Covenant Defined  —On simplybible.com certain technical or special words in the Bible are studied and explained in our glossary. Each lesson provides a word family, definitions, Greek and Hebrew references, a scripture chain, comments, and links to related lessons.

Sin and Legalism SERIES  —These lessons provide an insight into the nature of sin and how sin ought to be dealt with, while at the same time drawing attention to errors of legalism and liberalism.

Upholding Law SERIES  —There are certain doctrines about divine law that are misleading. This series examines how the law of Christ fits in with faith, grace, and other important matters discussed in the scriptures.

Thinking Through Romans SERIES  —A third series of studies in Paul’s letter to the Romans exploring the thinking and doctrine of Paul. The series includes a chart of the concept threads in Romans, and an outline of the book.

Ten Commandments Belong to Old Testament  —This lesson is about the ten commandments. We see that the ten commandments written on stones belong to the law of Moses (the old testament), not to the law of Christ (the new testament).

No Loophole in God's Law  —Some people think they can find loopholes in God’s law. They interpret the kindness of God as a weakness they can exploit.

Not Under Law  —About Paul’s statement in Galatians 5:18, “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law”.

The Guiding Principle  —More about Paul’s statement in Galatians 5:18, “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.”

Law and Faith  —Examining the relationship between faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to his law.

Law and Sin Inherent  —The first of three lessons from Romans that examine the relationship between sin and divine law.

Law and Sin Imputed  —The second of three lessons from Romans that examine the relationship between sin and divine law.

Law and Grace  —This lesson allows Paul to cast some light on his statement that we are not under law but under grace.

Law of Moses  —This lesson puts into perspective the law of Moses showing where it fits in to the topic of law and grace.

Christian Intolerance (2Thessalonians 3:6-18)  —This passage reminds us that Christianity is a religion with rules and discipline. It has a stern and intolerant side to it.

Law, Sin, and Grace  —Examines the message of Paul that we do not receive God’s grace by repudiating his law. Paul sees God’s law and grace combining, not conflicting.

God's Law in Your Heart  —Notices that when promising the new covenant, God said, “I will put my law within them and on their heart I will write it...” (Jeremiah 31:31-33). Why is the heart the place where God’s law must be?

The New Was In the Old  —We ought to see glimpses of the gospel in the former covenants, not remnants of the former covenants in the gospel.

Christ, King Now Reigning  —We look at the evidence in Paul’s letter to the Colossians that the kingdom of God now exists and there will not be a future kingdom on earth for 1000 years. Includes “Substance or Shadows?”
